However, the Blues will be attributing Schurrle’s absence from the squad to a back injury, which is the same reason used for his non-appearance at Bradford at the weekend.
Wolfsburg officials were in London over the weekend to hold talks with Blues officials over the possibility of signing the World Cup winner before the end of the January transfer window.
The Blues are hopeful of earning around £25m for his signature, though Wolfsburg are keen to land him on loan with the view of signing him permanently over the summer instead.
Chelsea want to try and raise funds to sign Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, who has been told that he won’t be leaving the Serie A giants for any less than his £26.8m release clause.
