AVB gives press murky Willian answer…
Tottenham Boss Andre Villas-Boas refused to confirm that his side have made a bid for Liverpool target Willian, who plays for Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia.
Spurs had reportedly jumped ahead of Liverpool in the race for the 25-year-old Brazilian playmaker’s signature, and were prepared to outbid Liverpool, who have lodged a £30m offer.
Tottenham’s manager was coy on the topic, and seemed agitated when asked a question on Spurs’ interest in the Brazilian.
“Can you confirm that you have bid for Willian?” asked the Sky Sports presenter.
“No,” The 35-year-old Portuguese boss murmured.
This could mean that Spurs haven’t submitted a bid for the player, or just that AVB doesn’t want to confirm it either way.
AVB did however admit previous interest in the 25-year-old Brazilian, and an admiration of his talents.
“He’s a player I appreciate and is player that belongs to Anzhi and out of respect I won’t like to extend myself,” added Spurs’ manager.
Willian has himself fuelled speculation, by following a variety of Brazilian Premier League players on Twitter, including Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United stars. Tottenham have been made favourites to snap up Willian, but having failed to bring in a marquee signing all summer, Liverpool will be desperate to beat their top four rivals to his signature.
