Reports in the Daily Express explain that Brendan Rodgers has firmed up his interest in the veteran playmaker, as he seeks out a potential replacement for departing captain Steven Gerrard.
The Express are talking up a lucrative short-term deal for Pirlo, who turns 36 later this month, citing the fact that Juventus’ potential Champions League victory will leave the player with little left to achieve in Turin.
Juventus have already moved to guard against his potential departure, approaching Bayern Munich over the availability of Alonso, who the Express believe will be allowed to leave the German club after their Champions League failure.
Pep Guardiola – assuming he remains with them (via Sky Sports) – wants to revamp his team ahead of next season, and that includes ditching the 33-year-old Spaniard, who has played 38 times in all competitions so far this season.
