Victory youngster wants Aussie call-up
Melbourne Victory striker Andrew Nabbout has turned down the opportunity to play for the Lebanon, as he still has his sights set on running out for Australia.
Ange Postecoglou scouted the 20-year-old while he was playing in the Victorian Premier League and took him to Victory.
He debuted last season for the Dark Blues and was catapulted into notoriety after his brace saw Victory pick up a win against Sydney.
The Lebanese football association have inquired about the availability of the youngster, who is yet to represent a country at any level.
The striker has for the moment turned them down, aiming to concentrate on his Socceroos prospects.
The player told Melbourne Victories website: “At the moment I’ve declined the offer, I’ve put it on hold because I’m still only 20 and I don’t want to rule out my chances of playing for the Socceroos – that’s a priority for me.
“It’s an honour for me and my family as well, with them coming from Lebanon, everyone’s ecstatic that they even showed an interest in me.”
Other than the brace against Alessandro Del Piero’s Sydney, Nabbout’s biggest moment so far has been playing against Liverpool in a closely fought exhibition game.
