The Irishman makes the first defence of the title he won against Matt Korobov last year, but he faces a difficult test against his undefeated rival.
Lee produced a stunning stoppage against Korobov after being seemingly down in the fight, and with that in his locker as well as his continued improvement under trainer Adam Booth, he is confident that he will come through his next test even though he is up against another unbeaten opponent.
“We’ve made unbelievable progress in the last year on my skills and everything has really just clicked for me and my team and now we’re seeing the results in the ring,” Lee said, according to the Daily Mail.
“There’s been a huge weight lifted off my shoulders since winning the world-title. It’s what I always wanted to do and I’ve been touted as a champion for years and if I never got it I would have been disappointed. Now the monkey is off my back and I can just box and show people who I am.
“I think this could be a technical fight or it could be a bit of a fire fight. It’s going to be a little of both at times. There will be moments where we’re looking at each other, figuring each other out, but once we exchange it could be explosive.”
Quillin conceded that he will have to be wary of Lee’s ability to pull something out the bag even when he is in trouble, but he remains fully confident in his own abilities and is looking forward to becoming a world champion again.
‘Kid Chocolate’ is aware of the pressure on him as the home fighter, but it is something that he will likely relish in New York on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Billy Joe Saunders will likely be keeping a close eye on the winner of this bout as he is in line to fight the winner next after he opted to step aside for the fight to happen.
A domestic clash with Lee would undoubtedly be the fight that boxing fans in the UK would like to see, while Chris Eubank Jr will be waiting in the wings to set up a rematch with his foe regardless of whether or not he is able to become a world champion.
