Tennis player Andy Murray fooled half the world’s media after sarcastically claiming he will marry girlfriend Kim Sears this summer on social network Twitter.
The 26-year-old reigning Wimbledon champion was responding to questions on the micro-blogging website when one Twitter user asked him when he was planning to pop the question.
@saravana_24 we are getting married just after Wimbledon should be a great day

He later appeared to suggest that he had been joking – and given the nature of Murray’s typically dry humour throughout his Q&A session for fans, perhaps the media should have realised.
3 things.. I don't smoke grass, I'm not getting married(yet) and I don't want to kill rafael Nadal..

Musician Ed Sheeran, a friend of Murray’s, joined in the conversation with a quip.
@andy_murray I'm disappointed by all 3 confessions

To further confirm the news, the Twitter account of Murray’s dog – widely believed to be run by his girlfriend Kim – also denied the news.
FYI, NOBODY IS GETTING MARRIED. His tweets need a sarcasm disclaimer. In more important news, we did this today: pic.twitter.com/b3cETIQF64

Sears and Murray have been together since 2005 – bar a brief hiatus – and the British tennis ace is regularly bombarded with questions on his marriage plans.
Perhaps next time the media won’t be so over-eager to publish.
