Angel di Maria says he joined Paris Saint-Germain because Manchester United officials wanted him out of the club.
Di Maria completed his £44m move to the Ligue 1 giants on Thursday just a year after United broke the British transfer record and spent £59.7m on the Argentine international.
The 27-year-old had a below par season with United, scoring just three goals in 27 Premier League appearances.
Di Maria says it wasn’t just his decision to leave Old Trafford and admitted that the club wanted to offload him after a poor year with English giants.
“It wasn’t just my deicision to leave. I left because they wanted to sell me. It wasn’t just my decision but from both parties and a third party that was Paris Saint-Germain,” Di Maria is quoted as saying by The Sun.
“They wanted me to come here. The things didn’t come off in the best possible way in Manchester for different circumstances.
“But they are things of the past. I am focused on the present and I am very happy to be here.
“I’ve been here in Paris for two days and in truth I’m very happy and pleased to be here in this city.
“And I am happy because my wife and my daughter will be very happy here.”
Di Maria will reportedly miss PSG’s season opener against Lille on Friday with a thigh injury.
