Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc has revealed that they are “very close” to signing Angel Di Maria from Manchester United.
The Argentine did not fly out to join United on their pre-season tour of the United States on Saturday, and Louis van Gaal has admitted that he “does not know why”.
Blanc, speaking after PSG’s penalty-shootout defeat to Chelsea in the International Champions Cup this morning, has since shone some light on the subject.
“There is a good possibility he could sign but there is nothing official,” he told reporters. “We have to have patience a little longer. The outcome is very close.”
Respected French newspaper L’Equipe reports that the Red Devils have agreed to take a £13m hit on their record signing and sell the 27-year-old to the Ligue 1 champions in a £46.5m deal.
Personal terms have apparently been in place for over a week as Di Maria desperately seeks to leave Old Trafford following an indifferent first season in England.
He scored just four goals in 32 games for United last campaign after joining from Real Madrid. Only Financial Fair Play prevented PSG from signing Di Maria then, and now they may finally have their man.
