Di Maria struggled in his first season in the Premier League, and The Mirror reports the German champions are willing to make an offer to United for the Argentine international.
Bayern will face stiff competition for the former Real Madrid man’s signature, with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain also interested.
However, it is understood Bayern can offer United a heftier transfer fee as Paris Saint-Germain are currently restricted by Financial Fair Play regulations, according to The Mirror’s report.
Di Maria managed just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances this season, but it is believed United want to retain the 27-year-old.
However, a fee in the region of the £59.7m that the Red Devils initially paid for the winger could sway club bosses, with the money possbly going a long way in helping bring former player Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford from Juventus.
