Man United manager Louis Van Gaal has insisted that new signing Anthony Martial will develop into a “top football player” after completing his move to Old Trafford.
United made the move official less than an hour before the 6pm deadline on Tuesday, but Van Gaal is delighted to have added the 19-year-old to his squad and has tipped him to become a crucial part of the club’s future.

“Anthony is a naturally talented, young, multi-functional forward with great potential. We have been watching him for a while now and he has developed immensely during his time at AS Monaco,” he said in an official statement on the club’s website.
“I am delighted he has joined Manchester United as I believe this is the right club for him to continue his development as a young player. He has all the attributes to become a top football player; however we need to give him time to adjust to his new environment and the rhythm of the Premier League.”
The Dutchman has come under fierce criticism from fans over the past few days given his dealings in the transfer window.
While the mess involving goalkeeper David De Gea has seen the Spaniard remain at Old Trafford for the time being at least, United opted to loan Adnan Januzaj to Dortmund and sell Javier Hernandez to Bayer Leverkusen
That had left the club in dire need of at least another forward, and Van Gaal will now hope that Martial can deliver immediately as he will likely play a crucial role alongside Wayne Rooney this season.
