Argentina player ratings from their 2-1 World Cup win over Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Sergio Romero – 6
Made a couple of important saves, but will be very disappointed to be beaten on the angle by Ibisevic.
Hugo Campagnaro – 5
Didn’t have much to do and was comfortable on the ball, but was sacrificed at half time for a tactical change by Alejandro Sabella.
Federico Fernandez – 6
Looked comfortable all game until his poor tracking led to Bosnia’s goal.
Pablo Zabaleta – 7
The Manchester City man was reliable as ever. Strong both defensively and going forward, Zabaleta will be key if Argentina are to go deep in this tournament.
Ezequiel Garay – 6
A solid performance from the defender without being brilliant. Will be disappointed to have conceded the goal, but did the job whenever he was called upon.
Marcos Rojo – 6.5
Started off extremely well , but a tactical switch to a 4-3-3 took away the attacking part of his game. Did a crazy ‘rabona’ clearance in the penalty box which could have gone wrong with the match still in the balance at 1-0.
Javier Mascherano – 6.5
Controlled the game well from deep, and carried out his defensive duties astutely.
Angel di Maria – 6
Had a quiet first half by his standards, but his second half showed glimpses of his excellent form he produced at Real Madrid last season.
Maxi Rodriguez – 5
Had no real influence on the game and was substituted at half time. You’d suspect he’ll be starting Argentina’s next group game on the bench, especially if Sabella starts with a 4-3-3.
Lionel Messi – 6.5
Went missing in the first half, but a much livelier second half resulted in an excellent goal.
Sergio Aguero – 6
The change in formation had a positive effect on Aguero, but he spurned a couple of good opportunities.
SUBSTITUTES
Fernando Gago – 6.5
Added another dimension when he came on and settled down the midfield.
Gonzalo Higuain – 6.5
His presence made Bosnia’s defence wary and he played a big part in Messi’s second half strike.
Lucas Biglia – N/A
