1) River Plate
The league leaders – played 12, lost 0. That’s an impressive record anywhere in world football. The fact it’s been done by a relatively young and inexperienced manager – Marcelo Gallardo – makes it all the more impressive. He replaced Ramon Diaz last season and has become only the second River Plate boss in history to go through his first 17 games undefeated.
2) Racing Club
Racing finished the last two seasons in 19th and 18th place, making the fact they are flying high in fourth this campaign highly remarkable. They have 22 points from 12 games and are only 2 behind Lanus in second. They’ve already beaten San Lorenzo, Boca Juniors and Estudiantes this season, and a return to continental competition looks more than likely.
3) Defensa y Justicia
They might be 17th in the table, but the new boys deserve a lot of credit for the way they’ve gone about their business. They’ve picked up twelve points from twelve games, and despite only keeping one clean sheet they have also only failed to score in one game. They are safe in the knowledge there is no relegation this season, and are enjoying their experience.
