The Arizona Cardinals had outside linebacker John Abraham return from a concussion earlier this week, but a turn of events occurred when the team announced he would be placed on injured reserve.
This effectively ends the linebacker’s season, and he had considered retirement before returning to the Cardinals. Abraham is currently the NFL’s active sacks leader with 133.5.
Abraham will be shut down for the season because he was unable to pass the concussion test. Head coach Bruce Arians said that Abraham no longer had his heart in the game.
This may be due to the fact that he had been suffering from memory loss for the past year before sustaining his concussion. The latest setback for the linebacker may force him to retire once and for all.
However, he proved to be a valuable pass rusher for the Cardinals last season as he finished with 11.5 sacks in 2013. His 15-year career may be coming to an end though.
