No. 1 overall draft pick Jadaveon Clowney had his ups and downs in his NFL debut.
The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Houston Texans 32-0 in their Week 1 preseason game.
Cardinals QB Carson Palmer went a perfect 5-for-5 with 84 yards and a TD to Larry Fitzgerald. The two Arizona backups also threw a TD: Drew Stanton had a 5-yard TD strike to Jaron Brown in the 1st quarter while rookie Logan Thomas connected with Dan Buckner for a 12-yard TD in the fourth quarter. WR John Brown led all players in the game with 5 receptions for 84 yards.
The Texans saw the debut of No. 1 overall draft pick OLB Jadaveon Clowney, who only recorded one tackle for a loss in the Cardinal backfield, but had a great impact on the Cardinals’ offensive line, allowing DE J.J. Watt to sack QB Carson Palmer in the first quarter.
Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, as of now the team’s starting QB, struggled in his first game with the team, going 6-for-14 with 55 yards and 2 INTs. He left after the first half and finished with a passer rating of 14.6. The two young backups, Case Keenum and rookie Tom Savage struggled as well, throwing only 8 passes between the two of them.
