Cardinals admit they are not hopeful, but are still looking to acquire unwanted QB.
The Arizona Cardinals need a Quarterback more than anything else in the world.
They went through four of them last year, and not one for them did the job to even a poor level.
This team has a good defence and an elite wide receiver in Larry Fitzgerald waiting to to make pays on the outside. Trouble is, none of the Quarterbacks have been good enough to get him the ball.
This off-season, it has been a priority for them to address the situation, and they are making a last gasp bid to trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith.
NFL.com reports that the Cardinals are interested in the trade acquisition, but also at the same time are not hopeful that a deal can be done.
The main reason for the pessimism is that they are in the same division and play each other twice a year. The 49ers know that Smith is a good player, so it is unlikely they will let him go to a side that they will face twice a year.
The other reason is that the ship may have already sailed on the trade rights as it was reported that a deal had already been put in place for the new destination of smith, with Kansas City being the likely target.
The Cardinals have the seventh overall pick int he draft, and if they are that desperate to acquire a Quarterback, they can pull the trigger then, and Matt Barkley is the likely target for them.
Whether he is the answer to the current situation in Arizona remains to be seen, however it is clear the know the problem, and are desperate to improve the position if they want to improve as a franchise.
