The Spaniard is confused as to why Los Blancos would let the German leave.
Arsenal pleased the majority of their fans when signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.4m on transfer deadline day, but new team mate Santi Cazorla is confused by why the Spaniards would sell the attacking midfielder.
Ozil had contributed an impressive 81 assists in 159 matches for Los Merengues, before the La Liga side decided to sell the German and had also established a great working relationship with top-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.
Yet after the signing of Gareth Bale for a world record £85.3m, the 24-year-old was concerned about the amount of first team football achievable at the Santiago Bernabeu and jumped at the chance to join the Gunners.
Cazorla is pleased that the north London side have landed Ozil, but doesn’t understand how Madrid could have let such a talented player leave.
“I don’t understand that [why Real Madrid sold him], [because] he is a unique player,” the 28-year-old was quoted by ITV.
“You will have to ask the club for reasons why they sold them, but at the same time he didn’t think he was getting the opportunities he deserved and luckily he has come to us.
“He is an important player and he is going to be very good for the team and the way we play.”
Ozil and Cazorla are likely to line up together in a three man attacking midfield unit that also includes Theo Walcott.
The prospect of the two creative talents working in tandem will be mouthwatering for the faithful at the Emirates Stadium and it could be seen as early as Saturday, when the side travels to Sunderland in the league.
