Veteran reveals that he is happy after a conversation with the manager.
It looks like Arsenal’s Spanish veteran Mikel Arteta is not leaving the club after all. Reports from talkSPORT suggest that the 32-year old central midfielder is feeling valued at the club again after holding fresh talks with his manager about his future.
Arteta only has one more year left to run on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium, and although there have been no reports of an official contract offer on the table yet, it seems as though Arteta has clarity on his future.
Speaking about a conversation he had with manager Arsene Wenger, Arteta said, “I can’t stop the rumours, but what I am certain is that I’m really happy here, I feel valued, I have been given a lot of responsibility and I like it.
“Until they think something different about me, I’m happy. I had a conversation with the manager. He knows my opinion and we’re fine.”
The former Everton star could still have a vital role to play in the Arsenal side next season, although it seems likely that the North Londoners will sign a new enforcer to solidify their midfield further.
The Gunners are in the fray for the German defensive midfield pair of Sami Khedira and Lars Bender, and Arteta might have to be content with fewer games at the club from now on as he approaches the end of the his career.
