Arsenal close in on transfer of Bayern Munich star in £14m deal.
Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich according to the Metro.
The Brazil international midfielder shone at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, and helped his country claim the title with some dominant displays in the centre of the park.
Gustavo’s anchoring of the Selecao midfield gave Luiz Felipe Scolari’s team a solidity they had been missing for years, and it is doubtful that the Brazilians could have defeated world and European champions Spain by the comprehensive scoreline of 4-0 without the Bayern Munich man’s enforcement – particularly as the Spanish midfield trio is widely regarded as the greatest in the world – and perhaps of all time.
Still, despite his impressive performances for his country, Gustavo appears unlikely to be a regular at Allianz Arena this season, with new signing Thiago Alcantara and stalwart Bastian Schweinsteiger preferred at the base of the midfield under recently appointed manager Pep Guardiola.
With that being the case, Gustavo could well be allowed to leave Bayern Munich this summer, with the Metro indicating a £14 million transfer is on the verge of completion.
