No one wins more aerial duels than Christian Benteke…
5) Olivier Giroud – Arsenal – 6.3 aerial duels won per match
As well as scoring six goals for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, Giroud has been brilliant in the air for the Gunners, too – winning over six aerial duels per game, thanks to his 6 ft. 4″ frame.
4) Marouane Chamakh – Crystal Palace – 6.3 aerial duels won per match
The ex-Arsenal flop will have a tough job leading the line for Ian Holloway’s relegation favourites this season. The Moroccan has always been pretty good in the air however, just not very good everywhere else.
3) Daniel Ginczek – Nurnberg – 6.3 aerial duels won per match
The German Under-21 international is stocky rather than rangy, but used his power and aggression to win nearly all of his aerial battles. His combative style has earned him more yellow cards than it has goals this season however!
2) Lasse Sobiech – Hamburg – 6.8 aerial duels won per match
The only defender on the list, Sobiech has been a rock at the heart of the Hamburg defence so far this season. At 6 ft. 5″, he is almost unbeatable in the air.
1) Christian Benteke – Aston Villa – 9 aerial duels won per match
Before his injury, Benteke was winning a ludicrous nine aerial duels per game! The Belgian powerhouse is an absolute colossus up front for Aston Villa, who will do very well to keep hold of him next summer.
