Spanish media outlet SPORT are reporting that Arsenal and Barcelona have agreed a £30.2 m deal over the transfer of Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez.
Liverpool have admitted defeat in their attempts to sign the Chilean, having wanted him as part of the move that will take Luis Suarez to the Nou Camp. Despite interest from the Reds, and Juventus, Arsenal are thought to have won the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.
The Gunners could announce a double-deal in the coming days, with Newcastle United full-back Mathieu Debuchy likely to join Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium.
Both Carl Jenkinson and Joel Campbell have been rumoured as potential makeweights in any deal for the French defender, who will cost around £7.9 m.
Arsenal fans will be anxious to see both deals secured, as the club look to build on the team that won their first trophy in nine years last season, beating Hull City 3-2 at Wembley in the FA Cup final.
Sanchez will complete a fearsome midfield setup alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere. Debuchy, 28, will serve as the ideal replacement for former right-back Bacary Sagna, who has joined Manchester City.
Arsenal’s main concern now will be signing a rival striker for first choice front-man Olivier Giroud, with Nicklas Bendtner having already left the club on a free transfer, and the club having missed out on re-singing Carlos Vela, who has elected to stay with Real Sociedad.
