Arsene Wenger has finally decided to buy a defender…
The future of Basel defender Fabian Schar is a hot topic of conversation in three countries, now that Arsenal have joined Juventus and Borussia Dortmund in the pursuit of his services, according to German paper Bild.
The Gunners are desperate for defensive cover, and like the look of the Swiss centre-back, who has performed well for Basel in the Champions League this term.

Arsene Wenger’s decision to start the season with just 6 senior defenders has been rightly criticised, especially in the light of recent weeks when Nacho Monreal has been drafted in to play at centre-back.
22-year-old Schar already has 94 appearances for Basel, and plenty of top-level experience. He went to the World Cup in the summer, and looks ready to take the next step in his career. It won’t be an easy battle for his services, but it’s one that Arsenal must at least compete in.
