London duo interested in Luiz Gustavo but will face competition from Wolfsburg.
Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo but Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg currently lead the chase for the Brazilian.
Gustavo, 26, has a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2015 but has been told by new Bayern boss Pep Guardiola that he is free to leave this summer, as the Spaniard looks to trim his midfielder-heavy first team squad.
The £10m-rated Brazil international made just 16 league starts for the treble-winners last season and his chances next term have been further limited by the arrival of Thiago Alcantara and Mario Goetze this summer.
Wolfsburg are currently in pole position for the former Hoffenheim star but boss Dieter Hecking admitted the club face competition for the enforcer, with Arsenal and Chelsea both thought to be keen on Gustavo.
“We are in a good position,” Hecking told German newspaper Bild.
“There are signs that Gustavo will leave Bavaria. We know that we are not the only club interested. But if it should work, it would be wonderful!”
