After almost single-handedly saving Aston Villa from relegation, Christian Benteke could be the biggest steal of the transfer period.

Aston Villa’s star Forward Christian Benteke has caught the attention of just about every major Premier League club, but Tottenham Hotspur lead the bid for his transfer.
According to the Daily Star, Mauricio Pochettino’s club will try to make a £20 million bid for the Aston Villa stud, who could pair with Harry Kane to form arguably the most dominant group of Forwards in the Premier League. The Belgian Forward has recorded 42 goals in 88 league appearances for Aston Villa since leaving the Belgian Pro League in 2012.
Benteke scored 13 goals in the final 12 matches of the season for Tim Sherwood and the Villans. capping a season in which Aston Villa went from possible relegation to safety after a dominant April. For his efforts, which included a rare hat trick against QPR, Benteke was named Premier League Player of the Month in April.
But Tim Sherwood, who needed Benteke in the club’s escape from the relegation zone and appearance in the FA Cup Final, likely won’t let Benteke go without buying his full £32.5m release clause.
Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool have all, unsurprisingly, expressed significant previous interest in Benteke, but no one club has emerged as a front-runner.
The Daily Star reported that Benteke rejected a move to Tottenham two years ago, but found that Eden Hazard, Benteke’s teammate on the Belgian international team, would be overjoyed if Chelsea could pick him up.
“If Christian signs with us, I would be the happiest man in the world,” Hazard told the Daily Star. “I have a great relationship with him and would like nothing better than to play with him.”
