Pique lets slip that the Barca midfielder is off.
The future of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has come from an unlikely source as Gerard Pique reveals the Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United target has been sold.
In a press conference for the Spanish national team, Pique’s microphone picked up a conversation the Barca defender was having with manager Vicente del Bosque.
Despite speaking in hushed tones it is easy to make out what the pair are saying to each other.
“[Fabregas] told me [the deal] is done. He’s already leaving, he told me that it is €33m,” Pique was quoted by the Mirror.
“Poor president (in reference to Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu). He can’t win for losing,” replies del Bosque.
There are some reports that the conversation was a wind up by the two Spaniards, as both Pique and del Bosque can also be seen trying to conceal smiles.
The centre-back does not specify which club Fabregas is joining, but speculation about the 27-year-old’s future is rife after enduring a difficult 12 months at the Nou Camp.
Since returning to Catalonia from the Gunners in 2011 the midfielder has found it tough to establish himself in the first team and in 2013/14 the Spain international was even booed by his own fans.
It’s now understood that Barca are willing to sell the midfield ace as long as their £30m valuation is met, with the Red Devils and the Blues thought to be leading the race.
Fabregas is a club legend at the Emirates Stadium and whilst many fans would welcome him back with open arms, Arsene Wenger’s side are already well stocked in the Catalan’s position.
