FC Barcelona and Arsenal must move quickly if they are to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star.
Arsenal and FC Barcelona have been linked with the signing of young German goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen, but the player’s club Borussia Monchengladbach hope to instead extend his contract.
“Borussia already knows that there are two or three big clubs interested in him,” said Ter Stegen’s agent Gerd Vom Bruch in an interview translated by talkSPORT.
“Right now we are talking with the club about extending his contract.”
Barca know they will have to replace veteran shot stopper Victor Valdes next summer, with the Spain international appearing set to join AS Monaco, and Ter Stegen was believed to be one of the Catalan club’s top transfer targets for the end of the season.
As for Arsenal, a goalkeeper was reported to be a key acquisition throughout the summer, and Emiliano Viviano was eventually signed from Palermo on a season long loan on transfer deadline day.
However, while the media suggested Arsene Wenger was in the market for a senior custodian to compete for the number one shirt at Emirates Stadium, it appears that losing his place in the side last season was a catalyst for Wojciech Szczesny to knuckle down, and since then he has hardly looked back.
Ter Stegen is just 21 years of age, and regular first team football is what will most greatly accelerate his development.
He would not be guaranteed that in north London.
