Red Bull Salzburg’s Hinteregger is on the radar of Europe’s elite.
Red Bull Salzburg and Austria under-21 defender Martin Hinteregger has become a transfer target for Arsenal and Juventus, according to Inside Futbal.
The youngster has been impressing in the Austrian Bundesliga and now these two European giants are vying for the signature of the same player – again.
The Gunners and Juve have also both identified FC Basel centre-back Fabian Schar as a potential acquisition and are set to go to battle once more.
Hinteregger has impressed for Salzburg and the club rate the 21-year-old highly, tying the Austrian down to a five-year contract recently.
The defender broke into the first team in 2010 and has since been a stalwart in the side, playing nine league matches so far this term and helping the side to the top of the division.
Hinteregger primarily operates in central defence, but can also play at left-back or defensive midfield.
Arsene Wenger is keen to improve the north London club’s strength at the back, having failed to sign any defensively minded players over the summer, bar former star Mathieu Flamini.
With question marks over the capabilities of captain Thomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou seemingly no longer in Arsene Wenger’s plans since being loaned to Hamburger SV, Hinteregger could well be a likely target.
Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are the undisputed preferred partnership at the back, but the starlet could well become third choice if Vermaelen was offloaded.
La Bianconeri however are an attractive prospect having won back-to-back Serie A titles and the Austrian youngster could well be tempted by a switch to Italy.
