Milner has less than six months remaining on his current contract at the Etihad Stadium, but the Citizens are keen to keep hold of the England international due to the pivotal role he has played for the side this season.
The 29-year-old had grown frustrated at his lack of game time and over the summer made his feelings clear to manager Manuel Pellegrini and the Chilean has clearly listened as the midfield ace has been a regular figure in the starting XI ever since.
However, City have been unable to tie Milner down to a new contract and have recently proposed a three-year extension with weekly earnings of £80,000-a-week – but it is not enough.
With the Englishman knowing how crucial he has been for Pellegrini this term he has demanded the deal be four years and a stand-off is now underway between player and club.
The Gunners and the Reds are known admirers of Milner and would be sure to throw their hats into the ring should he be available on a free transfer this summer, whilst away from the Premier League Roberto Mancini is keen for a reunion with the former Aston Villa man at Inter.
