The former international could well end up at either the Emirates or Anfield if Sporting’s valuation is met.
Portuguese newspaper Abola claim that Sporting Lisbon will outright reject any offers for Diego Capel that fail to match their valuation of £6m.
The Express report that both Arsenal and Liverpool are looking at the player as a possible solution for depth on the left wing.
Brendan Rodgers himself said earlier in the week that he hopes to bring a left winger to Anfield, whilst Arsenal will need to replace Gervinho after the Ivorian left for AS Roma.
Whilst Capel’s contract includes a £25.75m release clause, the player is currently not valued anywhere where near that figure at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. The player only made 15 appearances in the league last season scoring five goals, and he spent Sporting’s opening game of the season last weekend on the bench.
At Liverpool, Oussama Assaidi looks set to move on loan somewhere in Europe, whilst Suso already has. With Rodgers hoping to push the influential Philippe Coutinho into the middle of the pitch, Capel could certainly enable the change.
Arsenal meanwhile currently have a shortage of players in just about every position. The worrying situation at the Emirates has been compounded by the posterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, which will see the midfielder miss three months of play. Capel could provide a decent source of pace and direction which Arsenal would otherwise miss without Oxlade-Chamberlain.
