Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly expected to fight over AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo in the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
Montolivo is on the fringes for the Rossoneri this season, as new coach Sinisa Mihaljovic has left him on the bench for the opening two games of the season.

The Italian international has received significant criticism from certain sections of supporters too, as ultimately he has failed to live up to his reputation in recent years.
A serious injury last year did him no favours as he was forced to miss the World Cup after suffering a broken leg, and he has yet to prove that he has fully recovered from that issue.
Nevertheless, it is claimed that both the Gunners and Brendan Rodgers are monitoring him with a view of making a move in either the January transfer window or next summer.
While Liverpool are clearly still looking to add depth to their squad, the move makes less sense from an Arsenal point of view given the options already at Arsene Wenger’s disposal.
As a result, it remains to be seen whether or not the interest is concrete, or whether the Gunners will be looking elsewhere when the market is open for business again.
