Fazio is also on Barcelona’s wishlist.
Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool may have been dealt a transfer blow as Europa League champions Sevilla are in talks with their 27-year old centre-back Federico Fazio to extend his contract and increase the amount of his buyout clause, reports talkSPORT.
Sevilla are willing to increase the highly rated defender’s salary in a bid to also hike his £8 million release clause that weakens the club’s negotiating stance over the player.
It is no secret that Arsenal and Liverpool are looking for centre-backs to strengthen their defence for different reasons.
The Gunners want to replace their want away skipper Thomas Vermaelen with an assured defender who can fill in for their first choice pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, while the Reds want to plug some holes in their defence by bringing in more accomplished defenders.
Argentine international Fazio meanwhile, has settled in well in Seville having been with the Spanish side for over seven years now, and is not keen on a transfer this summer.
