Costa pledges his future to Atletico.
Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa has put an end to the speculation linking the Brazilian with Arsenal and Liverpool by signing a new contract at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
The 24-year-old has signed a three-year deal with Atleti and it means the La Liga club will not now face the prospect of losing both Radamel Falcao and Costa in the same transfer window.
“I’m very happy at this agreement after much fighting to earn the respect and affection of my team-mates and the fans,” the Brazilian was quoted in the Sun.
“It’s a very special moment. I am very happy here.”
Both the Reds and the Gunners had been keeping an eye on the attacker in a bid to improve their offensive setup for the upcoming season, but will now have to turn their attention elsewhere.
Costa operates on either wing or through the middle, favouring the left flank and after Liverpool’s sale of Stewart Downing to West Ham United, the Brazil international was looking like the ideal replacement.
However, the Merseyside club have also been keeping their eye on transfer-listed Willian of Anzhi Makhachkala as an alternative and have already signed two players who can feature in that position in Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.
It’s a more sorry state of affairs at the Emirates Stadium though, where manager Arsene Wenger has only brought in one new recruit in the shape of free transfer Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre.
Arsenal fans are beginning to become concerned at their side’s lack of action in acquiring new talent, having already missed out on Gonzalo Higuain this summer.
