Both the Gunners and United are keen to sign recruitment in central defence after shaky starts to the season and Vlaar is a viable option having entered the final year of his current contract at Villa Park.
Now the Premier League rivals have been given renewed hope after the comments from the 29-year-old’s representative Arnold Oosterveer.
“It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious,” Oosterveer was quoted by the Mirror.
“The situation is ideal for Ron right now. You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don’t want to react to the rumour that he will move to either Arsenal or Man United, but Ron is very ambitious.”
Vlaar has seen his stock rise in the past few months after an impressive showing for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, incidentally under the guidance of Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal.
It is this connection with van Gaal that makes Old Trafford the more likely destination for the central defender, although Arsene Wenger has not given up hope just yet.
Wenger has sent scouts to watch Vlaar and hopes to bring in the Villa star to provide much needed support at the back.
