French midfielder has announced his intention to leave Toulouse this summer, with the Premier League a likely destination.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out to sign Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue, after the French international stated that he feels it is time to leave the club.
The 24-year old has long been a target of the North London clubs, and this news will likely trigger a quick response as they look to land the highly touted midfielder.
Although Toulouse coach Alain Casanova plans to hold on to the tough tackling midfielder, Capoue told the Metro that he feels that it is the right time for him to leave the club.
“If he (Casanova) wants to keep me, that is good,” Capoue said.
“That says that he counts on me, that he is happy with me.
“But it is football. I feel it is the moment to leave, to play in big competitions.”
Currently away on international duty with the France team, Capoue went on to add that no deal would be put in place until he returned next week.
“Right now, I am with the national team and I continue to represent TFC,” he added.
“We will talk about it again after June 10.”
Arsenal appear to be on the lookout for a defensive midfielder this summer, with the club also taking a keen interest in Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, and either he or Capoue would add some much needed physicality to the middle of the park at Emirates Stadium.
