Aston Villa boss warns north London pair off Christian Benteke.
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has insisted that Arsenal and Tottenham target Christian Benteke has not played his last game for the Villains.
The £25m-rated Belgian is wanted by the north London duo after an astonishing first season in the Premier League, in which the 22-year-old has bagged 19 goals.
Benteke, a £7m summer signing from Genk, is suspended for the final game of the season at Wigan after being sent off against Chelsea last weekend but Lambert says the powerful forward has not played his last game for the clun.
“Christian is just starting on the ladder. He’s been saying he’s really happy here, so I’ve left it at that,” the Scot is quoted as saying by The Sun.
Villa remain in danger of relegation and will go down if the Latics win their final two matches of the season and Sunderland take a point at Spurs.
There seems little chance that Benteke will play on in the Championship, with both Arsenal and Tottenham desperate to boost their firepower this summer.
