The Romanian striker is in hot demand after being released by Schalke.
Arsenal and West Ham face a battle to sign free agent Ciprian Marica after Getafe entered the race for the Romanian striker.
Marica’s agent recently suggested that his client his clients most likely destination would be the Emirates Stadium, but the Daily Express say reports in Spain are claiming that he could now move to La Liga instead.
The 27-year-old is hunting new employment after being released by Bundesliga giants Schalke in the summer and was on West Ham’s radar while they sought cover for the injured Andy Carroll, before completing the free transfer signing of Mladen Petric on Tuesday.
However, it appears that Marica is now Getafe’s plan B should they fail in their attempts to land former Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who is reportedly in talks over a move to the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
Marica certainly has the European pedigree that Arsene Wenger seeks to provide back-up for Olivier Giroud, having started his career at Dinamo Bucharest before moving to Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk in 2007.
He left for Germany after four years at the Donbass Arena to join Stuttgartt, where he spent just a year before moving on to Schalke for a single season.
