Arsenal and Spurs both eye star French defender as potential reinforcement.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have each been linked with the signing of FC Sochaux defender Sebastien Corchia, but it is the Gunners who lead the chase for the 22 year-old according to the Daily Mail.
The Frenchman, who has been a regular in the Under-21 setup for his country, has shone in Ligue 1 this season and is on the fringes of the full France team.
Corchia has been Sochaux’s standout player this season in a struggling side, and because he is currently involved in a contract dispute with his club, the Gunners feel a swoop may be possible.
Sochaux want Corchia to commit his long term future to the team now, but the player has so far been unwilling. His current deal expires in 2015, and naturally his team are eager to tie him down as soon as possible as his value will only decrease.
It remains a possibility that Corchia will feel that he has outgrown a club fighting relegation though, and with Bacary Sagna likely to depart Arsenal in the summer, Carl Jenkinson will need some competition – and backup – in the right back position.
Corchia likes to motor up and down the right flank, and is a regular and accurate crosser of the ball. As a trait neither Sagna and Jenkinson appear to possess, it has been a constant source of frustration for Gunners fans.
Sagna has been out of form this season, and there have been calls for Jenkinson to take his place already. It looks like he will now get his chance to prove himself as Arsenal’s first choice right back.
