Another area that Wenger is hoping to improve is defensive midfield, as despite having a plethora of talent in the middle there is no physicality and grit.

Mathieu Flamini serves a purpose, but is not always reliable, whilst Mikel Arteta has had a poor campaign and could well be on his way this summer.

Wenger is a big admirer of fellow countryman Schneiderlin and his hard work for the Saints and could be the ideal candidate to allow Aaron Ramsey or Jack Wilshere to flourish.
