Arsenal handed new hope in potential transfer of Real Madrid legend to Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Spanish international goalkeeper Iker Casillas is far from dead as the 33-year old’s boyhood club Real Madrid are already plotting a move for his long term replacement in Benfica goalie Jan Oblak.
Iker Casillas had a disastrous game as Spain’s No.1 against arch rivals Holland on Friday, when he let in five goals from the menacing Dutch strike force, and that has put his domestic future back in doubt.
Notwithstanding the World Cup shocker, Casillas had already lost his regular spot in La Liga to Diego Lopez, and was already rumoured to be contemplating an exit.
Arsenal meanwhile still believe that an experienced star like Spanish international Casillas could be the ideal backup for 24-year old Gunners’ No.1 Wojciech Szczesny, according to the Daily Express.
Casillas is sentimentally attached to the Los Blancos though, which could still make it hard for Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger to plot a move for the 33-year old veteran.
