Wenger set to spend big once more in three months time…
Despite shattering the club’s transfer record on summer deadline day, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been promised a £50m budget to spend when the window reopens in January, reports the Sun.
Mesut Ozil arrived from Real Madrid for a whopping £42m at the beginning of the month, and has set the Premier League on fire from his very first appearance.
However, the Gunners latest accounts show cash reserves of nearly £120m on May 31 this year, so there is still huge amounts of money left even after the Ozil deal.
Chairman Sir Chips Keswick, said: “With the Ozil transfer I believe we have made a significant statement and when Arsene decides the time is right to invest again, Stan Kroenke, myself and the rest of the Board will be delighted to support him.”
With Arsenal top of the Premier League with four consecutive wins, everything is looking rosy at the Emirates, but in places the squad is worryingly thin. With Lukas Podolski out injured, Olivier Giroud is the only fit, established striker at the club – and if he picked up an injury, Arsenal could see their title challenge fall at the wayside.
Wenger could spend the £50m budget on Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. The Frenchman is reportedly discontent at the Spanish giants, and could relish the chance to link up with the plethora of Frenchman at the Emirates.
