Arsenal are still not giving up in their efforts to pursue Real Madrid star striker Karim Benzema, and they are willing to put forward a high bid.
According to the Spanish website AS, Wenger is keen on Arsenal offering £45.6m for the French international even though he has denied interest.
It is likely that Wenger is simply trying to create a smokescreen though. At the very least, he is attempting to deflect attention away from these rumours as Benzema is keen to stay at Real Madrid.
Convincing the La Liga powerhouse to sell Benzema will be a tall task, and he will have to give into temptation to transfer to the Emirates.
Arsenal cannot be blamed for trying though. They are in need of a new striker, as they look to dethrone Chelsea as Premier League champions.
They already have key weapons in Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, but Benzema’s consistency would be ideal for the team.
He has scored at least 20 goals in each of his last five seasons.
