With Karim Benzema‘s future with Real Madrid in question, Arsenal appear ready to pounce on the Spanish scoring machine with a big bid should be become available.
According to the Metro, Arsenal have joined the laundry list of teams vying for Benzema’s services in the wake of Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez’s plan to use Cristiano Ronaldo as the club’s main striker next season. The Metro reported that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is “a huge fan” of Benzema and is set to make a £17.8 million bid for the 27-year-old Frenchman.
After Ligue 1 Top Goal Scorer honors and scoring 37 goals during his last two seasons with Lyon from 2007 to 2009, Real Madrid bought the French superstar for reportedly over €35 million. After a disappointing first season in Spain, Benzema began living up to his big-time contract by scoring 79 goals over the next 161 appearances.
Benzema has scored double-digit league goals and 20 total goals in each of the last five seasons and in seven of the last eight. He is a three-time French Player of the Year and led Lyon to four straight Ligue 1 Championships during his first four seasons with the club.
