Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has held lengthy talks with Colombian goalie David Ospina’s agents, and is now set to conclude a £3 million deal as early as this week, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 25-year old Nice man is available on a cut price deal as he has just 12 months remaining on his contract. The Gunners hope that he will replace Polish goalie Lukasz Fabianski (who’s joined Swansea) as the second goalie in the side, and he is also expected to compete with No.1 Wojciech Szczesny for a regular spot in the side.
Wenger was linked with the Colombian before the World Cup, and the shot-stopper’s composed performances in Brazil have vindicated the French manager’s decision to land him over other potential targets in France’s Stephane Ruffier, Cardiff City’s David Marshall and several others.
Arsenal might want another goalie as a 3rd choice as well, given their injury issues with goalies in the past, but Wenger might now look at someone from his youth system or other younger goalkeepers elsewhere for that role.
