Wenger still thinks Gunners need cover.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he could still be looking to bring in another defensive player, report the Guardian, with the Frenchman seemingly concerned about the lack of depth at the back for Arsenal after the departure of captain Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona.
Teenager Calum Chambers, himself signed from Southampton this summer, is Arsenal’s only real cover at the back currently, something that is acknowledged by Wenger:
“I don’t rule it out. I am still looking. If we find a candidate, I don’t rule it out. We have many games to play. If Chambers goes into midfield, we are short at the back. So we are a bit short. Numbers-wise we are maybe a bit short in certain areas, but the depth of the squad is very good.”
This seems to indicate that Wenger is keen on bringing in another defensive option, with Olympiakos’ Greek international defender Kostas Manolas suggested as a potential option for the Gunners.
Chambers is, however, likely to start in the centre of defence when the Gunners host Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, with Per Mertesacker only having returned to training in the last few days.
