Some of Europe’s biggest clubs have identified Arsenal’s France international stars as top transfer targets this summer.
Arsenal defenders Bacary Sagna and Laurent Koscielny could leave Emirates Stadium this summer, with the two France internationals both interesting top clubs across Europe.
According to the Daily Express, the 30 year-old Sagna is a target for the two biggest spending teams in Ligue 1 – Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.
Sagna’s contract expires at the end of June 2014, and the right back has been flirting with a PSG move in the French press over the last few months. The fact that he is a confirmed Paris Saint-Germain supporter only adds fuel to the fire.
Whilst Sagna’s exit is almost half expected by the more pessimistic amongst the Gunners fanbase, Koscielny departing the club would be far more of a blow.
When on top of his game, the 27 year-old is a match for the world’s best forwards, and was a vital component in Arsenal’s late push for the UEFA Champions League at the end of the last season.
It is therefore little surprise to see Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona linked with bids, and Koscielny expressed his desire to win trophies through his agent recently.
“There is interest. I know that Laurent is part of a shortlist of three or four players for both clubs,” confirmed Stephane Courbis.
With Arsenal’s increased capital this summer, they can attempt to demonstrate their ambition to Koscielny, for unlike many recent breaks between seasons, they are under little pressure to sell any of their top talents.
Instead, with the right investment, they could finally break that infamous trophy drought.
