“Leggy” Gunners need world class Benzema says Shearer.
Arsenal can win the Premier League title if they sign a world-class centre forward like Karim Benzema, according to Alan Shearer.
The Gunners missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after a 1-0 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The North London outfit boast a host of midfield talent and have tightened up defensively but remain reliant on France striker Olivier Giroud for firepower.
Arsene Wenger has been linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Benzema and Shearer believes the arrival of the Frenchman would be a game-changer for Arsenal.
“They [Arsenal] looked a bit leggy, they looked a little bit lethargic on Sunday at Old Trafford, and there wasn’t the fizz and the buzz around the midfield we have seen in recent games,” said Shearer.
“Bearing in mind what we saw them do to Liverpool at the Emirates, when they pulled those three centre-halves all over the place with their movement, I didn’t really see [Nemanja] Vidic, [Phil] Jones, when he went to centre-half, and [Jonny] Evans being pulled around half as much as Liverpool’s centre-halves.
“[Olivier] Giroud, as well, he has had a very good start [to the season] but he looked a bit leggy on Sunday.
“They have had a fantastic start, you can’t deny that.
“But if you were to give them a world class centre-forward like Benzema then people might have to start revising their opinion.”
