Can Petr Cech end the Premier League title drought at Emirates Stadium? One key member of the Gunners seems to agree.
Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has expressed his supreme confidence in new Gunners goalkeeper Petr Cech, and believes Cech wants to win the Premier League title.
While on Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Singapore, Arteta told the Metro that Cech’s desire to remain one of the Premier League’s top goaltenders has driven him and that he wants to be a Premier League champion again with another major club.
“He is still hungry and he wants to prove himself at the top again and it’s a really good decision for us,” Arteta said. “He could have gone to another league and said: ‘My name is here forever in the Premier League with Chelsea.’
‘And you know that there will be some criticism coming [to him]. He just wants to take this chance and say: “I’ve got another chapter with a massive club and I want to make Arsenal champions.'”
A 12-year veteran at Stamford Bridge, Cech made 333 appearances for Chelsea during his tenure with the club, winning 3 Golden Glove awards and being a part of 4 Premier League title wins and 4 FA Cup titles. But after the 2014-15 season, Chelsea agreed to sell Cech for £11 million to their bitter rivals at Emirates Stadium.
Cech owns the second-most clean sheets in Premier League history and owns the most clean sheets by any Premier League stopper with a single club.
