Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is chasing the signature of highly-rated young Gremio defender Bressan, according to reports emerging from the Metro today.
The 21 year-old centre back is inexperienced, having made fewer than 30 appearances in the Brasileirao for his club since a move from fellow Brazilian side Juventude in 2013.
Wenger seems to be keen to add a centre-back to his ranks this summer, but with an established and solid partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, an up-and-coming player rather than one who is likely to demand immediate first team football may fit the bill for the Frenchman.
Bressan spent a short period on trial with French side Lille in 2012 and, although nothing came of the move, it was the beginning of what would appear to be a journey to the bright lights of European football.
Wenger has a track record for bringing Brazilians to the Emirates Stadium, with Gilberto Silva having successfully anchored the Gunners’ midfield in title-winning campaigns, although he was off the mark with less established signings such as Denilson and Andre Santos.
The Gunners are believed to be ready to allow reserve captain Thomas Vermaelen leave the club this summer if they can get reinforcements in, with Bressan appearing to have emerged as Wenger’s new key target.
