Having come through the ranks in Catalonia and playing for Barca his entire career to date, it was thought Busquets was keen for a change and was considering a switch to the Premier League.
The Spanish giants have been in indifferent form since Luis Enrique took over as head coach and many of their current contingent are thought to be looking to alternatives as a result.
Busquets rose to prominence once Yaya Toure had left for Manchester City in 2010 and since then has become a firm fixture in the starting XI for both club and country.
The Gunners in particular are desperate for a defensive midfielder in the mould of the Spain international, whilst the Red Devils are also looking to strengthen in the middle.
However, it looks as if they will have to look elsewhere as Busquets moves closer to signing a new deal with Barcelona.
