Atletico Madrid’s President Enrique Cerezo has ruled out the possibility of the La Liga winners signing Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla or Manchester United’s out of favour striker Javier Hernandez, reports the Daily Mirror.
Both the strikers are far from being first choice in England and are expendable at their respective clubs if the right offer were to come on the table.
Atletico, who sold their star striker from last season Diego Costa to Chelsea this summer, were heavily linked with the Premier League pair this summer, but Cerezo’s statement comes as surprising news. The Spanish club’s chief said recently, “Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Callejon, Torres nor Chicharito (Hernandez) are on our agenda. If we sign another player, it won’t be any of them.”
Atletico Madrid possibly feel that they have already replaced Costa with former Bayern star Mario Mandzukic, but Cerezo did not rule out the possibility of more new acquisitions this summer.
One reckons that Atletico’s lack of interest in Torres and Hernandez is a blow for their Premier League sides as they would have wanted to sell the outcasts to make space for better strikers.
