AS Roma attacker Seydou Doumbia says he held talks with several English clubs during the summer transfer window.
The Ivory Coast international joined the Serie A heavyweights during last January from CSKA Moscow but failed to make an impact in the Italian capital, scoring just two goals in 13 appearances for the Gialorossi.
According to Daily Star, Doumbia was linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City during the summer, however, the 27-year-old shunned a Premier League move in favour of a return to CSKA Moscow on a season-long loan.
“I had contacts with English clubs, but CSKA was the best solution,” Doumbia told Africa Top Sports, as reported by Daily Star.
“I wasn’t happy and I wanted to come back.
“Since the first day in Rome I didn’t feel good. Now I’m back to CSKA Moscow and I’m happy again.
“I’m still owned by Roma but I have no intention of going back.”
Doumbia has been prolific during his time in the Russian Premier League, scoring 61 goals in 96 appearances since joining CSKA Moscow from BSC Young Boys in 2010.
He was voted Footballer of the Year in Russia in 2011, and was the league’s top goalscorer in 2011-12 and 2013-14.
